Mariel Folk (she/they b. Washington D.C.) is a Berlin-based creative film student, eco-artist, herbalist and social/eco entrepreneur focused on climate justice, food systems, decolonial liberation and the transformative power of documentary, narrative, and experimental storytelling. Along with film, Mariel is also studying the holding of intersectional minded, trauma-informed spaces, working to lay the foundation for an inclusive and accessible artistic, directorial, and curatorial practice. With a deep commitment to their craft and the potential for media and art to change our social ecology for the better, Mariel is always eager to take on new challenges and create compelling, impactful work within a team or independently. Currently open to short term freelance work in media production, film fest/event production, as a certified Covid Compliance Officer or curatorial assistant in EU & UK, longer term possible in Berlin.

    • Working as a PA on sets like Showtime's election documentary series The Circus, and clients such as HBOmax. Airport runs and driving of cast and crew. Managed petty cash and credit card expenses, ensuring accurate record-keeping and timely reimbursement. Collaborated with producers, directors, and crew to ensure smooth production processes and adherence to project timelines. References available.

  • The Grocery Story Project, Detroit, Michigan 2018-2021

    • Entrepreneurial venture to launch a pioneering sustainable grocery store and community space in Detroit, MI, aimed at eliminating plastic waste and promoting local urban farmed foods. Despite significant efforts and investment, the store faced many 'red tape' challenges due to issues in the food system and ultimately had to close down. Learned valuable lessons about the challenges of implementing innovative business models in this food system and future investment and community care strategies currently in beginning stages.

  • Mutual Aid Media Production, Detroit, Michigan, 2020

    • In Spring of 2020 I produced and edited the videos for MICovid Community Response Coalition's statewide virtual campaign.
